  1. This photograph was taken on Dovima's first trip to Paris with Avedon. Here she models a look from the Oblique Line, Autumn/Winter 1950. Avedon later celebrated Dovima as "the most remarkable and unconventional beauty of her time." But he also described her as "simply a creation; she didn't exist as herself. Her name was made up (DOrothy VIrginia MArgaret Juba), her face was made up, her attitude was made up...."
