Ann Theophane "Theo" Graham was born in New York in 1926, and first worked for Avedon as a photographuc assistant. By 1949 she was modeling for him, and that summer flew to Paris with Avedon and one of his favorite models, Dorian Leigh. In this picture Graham is wearing one of Dior's most celebrated evening gowns, Junon, from the Autumn/Winter 1949 collection. The ball gown with its tiny strapless bodice and voluminous skirt, was made of white silk tulle embroidered with blue, silver, copper, purple and green iridescent sequins. The Venus gown is embroidered with pearls, paillettes and rhinestones.
